#Videocrux - Clinton appointed as UN special envoy to Haiti
Clinton appointed as UN special envoy to Haiti Former US Bill Clinton has welcomed his new role as UN special envoy to Haiti. Speaking in Paris where he is on a fund-raising tour for the Clinton Foundation charity, the former US president says that conditions to turn around the desperately poor, wartorn country have never been so good. Images and soundbites.
Haiti welcome Bill as UN special envoy I was honored to do this when the Secretary General asked me because I have a more than 30-year interest in Haiti. And I believe in all the years that I've been there, been going there, this is the best chance they've ever had to escape their history, their legacy of poverty and oppression and neglect.
Bill Clinton to help Haiti's recovery I think that the greatest interest here is in US, Canada and France which have the largest Haitian diaspora and in Brazil which has taken, as the largest country in Latin America, has taken an enormous interest in trying to help Haiti come back.
Clinton to work in Haiti to build modern economy One of the real advantages that we're going to have working in Haiti is that it should be fairly easy to up the number of people going to university, which is essential to building a core modern economy. But it's a big challenge and I look forward to it.
