#Videocrux - Laurent art acution, sale of the century.
Laurent art acution, sale of the century. The public have been viewing a priceless collection of artworks owned by the late designer Yves Saint Laurent, before they are auctioned off on Monday in what's been described as the "sale of the century". A collection 50 years in the making to be sold off in three days. But before the hammer drops for the last time, there's a brief window of opportunity for the public to catch a glimpse of the beautiful objects Yves Saint Laurent surrounded himself with. Male, "I mean there's a Mondrian in there, a black and white one from 1915 with the tape coming off it and stuff like that it's an amazing thing to see. It's probably been in some back room for a really long time, and to see it come out is great." If the public are impressed so are the experts. A collection like this has rarely been assembled.
The most anticipated auctions of recent times. THOMAS SEYDOUX, Christie's Auction House, "It's unprecedented, I mean we've never sold a collection in recent memory of that sort of outstanding quality throughout. And I think it's going to be most welcome to collectors, who don't have that often a chance to acquire pieces of such quality." Among the works rarely seen examples from Mondrian, the Impressionists and a Picasso, from his cubist period, thought to be worth some 40 million dollars. And, of course, the controversial bronze relics thought to have been looted from Beijing's Summer Palace in the 19th century. They may have led to a dispute with China, but the publicity has helped make this one of the most anticipated auctions of recent times.
People congregating to see Laurent's art collection. Jussi Pylkkanen, President, Christie's Europe, "Yes, it will be a great, great event, an event the likes of which we've never seen before, both in terms of people congregating to see Yves Saint Laurent's collection.
