A painting sold for 32 million euros.
One piece attracting a lot of attention this painting by Matisse: Cuckoos on a blue and pink carpet. “I have to say I really like the Matisse very much. I saw that in the exhibition and thought it was really outstanding. The painting fetched the biggest bid: 32 million euros. One of seven world records snared in less than three hours.
Berge happy when Picasso's paintng was not sold.
One surprise: no takers for this Picasso. But on this golden night every cloud has a silver lining. Pierre Berge, Yves Saint Laurent's partner, “I am very happy because I can keep it. So it's wonderful. I have made a sale which reached amazing sums tonight and I get to keep a Picasso.
