The centre's also decided to promote its 1960s collection of modern American art. A whole area's been set aside for works made mostly out of various objects found in the street. Jean-Paul Ameline, "Behind us is Rauschenberg's very important 'Oracle', which displays various elements found in the streets of New York City; a bath, a shower, a guitar, a car door. They're all put together and have been fitted with a radio which constantly changes frequency."
Paris Pompidou's new exhibition centre in Metz
It's a sparkling new branch of one the world's best-loved modern art museums. Paris' Pompidou Centre has transfered hundreds of treasures to its new exhibition centre in the northern French town of Metz. A perilous task for restauration experts. Ingrid Novion, specialist in art restauration,"We've had to sort of 'un-do' the canvas by lifting it off and that's been very risky. It's a very delicate operation. It's taken weeks and weeks."
Pompidou now displaying Picasso's famous "Pisseuse"
But of course it wouldn't do for the new museum to outshine its Parisian counterpart. So, the original Pompidou Centre's had somewhat of a spring clean, and is now displaying rarely-seen masterpieces like Picasso's famous "Pisseuse" dating back to 1965. Jean-Paul Ameline, head of the modern art collection at Paris' Pompidou Centre, "Picasso was already world-famous and worked really hard to try out completely new ideas on his work like this very expressionist painting. It's extremely strong, I'd even say earthy."

A room dedicated to an art form modern furnishings
Also under the watchful eye of the public, a room dedicated to an art form often overlooked modern furnishings. Jean-Paul Amelin, "This Scandinavian collection is a first for the Pompidou Centre. There are chairs, lights, drawers and other furniture from Sweden, Denmark and other Scandinavian countries." Not all the museum's original collections have had to make way for these latest exhibits. Kandinsky and Yves Klein fans, for example, shouldn't go home disappointed.
