Once upon a time, fairy tale lovers dreamt of bringing together children's stories from across Europe. And now they have with the new European Fairy Tales Centre just outside the southern Polish city of Pacanow. It boasts a library, theatre, moving screen room and a range of exhibits all designed for the young and young at heart.
New fairy tale centre opens in Poland
Once upon a time, in the heart of Poland. Children take their first steps into a magical wonderland. An enchanted forest, giant flowers and new hideaways to discover. The European Fairy Tales Centre in the Polish town of Pacanow is the perfect place to dream.
Fairy tale centre all designed for the young
Mirror, mirror on the wall! Who is the boldest of them all? Some children aren't so sure about a mirror of smoke, others though plunge through fearlessly. A few steps on, a challenge to lift the spell on Beauty and the Beast. Six guides dressed to the nines, help the make-believe feel real.
New centre helping young in education
The centre is certainly fun but it's also about education using fairytale stories to impart worldly lessons. Sebastian Szczesniak, "A guide read the children 'Little Red Riding Hood' and she warned them that there can be lots of wolves in real life, particularly among strangers. It was original and really useful."
The centre encourages children to read
The centre cost more than 7 million euros partly financed with European funds. Only European fairy tales are represented here and only if they also exist in book form. It's all part of a drive to encourage children to read. Magdalena Janiak-Jaskolowska, Director of the European Fairy Tales Centre just outside Pacanow, "What we're aiming for is that after the children visit the centre, they buy a book or comic to learn more about their heroes. This will help them with their reading skills." And to help that goal, a library will soon be opened. But in the meantime, there's still a whole world to discover and lots of chances to learn how to live happily ever after.
