Aid efforts stepped up ahead of Haiti's rainy season With more than a million Haitians homeless, the rainy season on its way and many thousands more still in desperate need of food and medical care, the quake-ravaged country currently depends on foreign aid more than ever. Coordination efforts have improved, making distribution quicker and more widespread, but impatience is stilll growing in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
UN base for coordinating international aid
UNOCHA aid coordinators are working together Kristen Knutson, Spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says "I think it was more a question of the immense logistical challenges that we were facing in the first days of the response. And so you know it's looking at this question of priorities, it's how we're working together."
Delmas 62 camp fed up with unrealistic aid Zacharie Exidus, Head of Delmas 62 camp says "They make a list and note down people's names. But there's three or four hundred of us here. The list is drawn up and that's the end of it, they never come back."
Time for "First Response Team" to head home Lieutenant Colonel Vallette says "People here are sad we're leaving but in fact our mission was to provide an initial emergency service. I think it went well. We worked in numerous hospitals with other international groups, especially the Americans. We shared out duties and everyone got on with the job."
