China's holiday travel rush gains pace More than 210 million passengers are expected to crowd onto China's railways during the lunar New Year as officials scramble to accommodate the record surge.

It has been estimated that over 2.5 billion journeys will be made during the 40-day Lunar New Year traveling period. Many will end up taking the bus because they can't get a train ticket.
Most important holiday period of China Given the massive numbers of Chinese travelling home for the Lunar New Year, railway trains are sometimes unable to meet everyone's needs. And so, long-distance buses are the next best option in ensuring family reunions during this festive season. Tan Xuesong, 40, construction worker, says "This is China's most important holiday, most people wish to go home. Train tickets are really scarce, but it can't be helped, everyone wants to go home."
