Fifty chefs in the Arab-Israeli village of Abu Ghosh set a new record for the world's biggest hummus on Friday after they mashed up over four tonnes of the dip. Abu Ghosh creates world's largest hummus
Fifty chefs in the Arab-Israeli village of Abu Ghosh on Friday mashed up over four tonnes of hummus, beating the Guinness World Record set in Lebanon just months ago. A simple but tasty dish of chickpeas, sesame paste, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic, hummus stirs passions and rivalries across much of the Middle East. Hummus, sometimes described as one of the oldest known prepared foods, is enjoyed in much of the Middle East and has probably been around for centuries.
4100 kgs of hummus to break all records
Dished out in a six-metre (20 foot) satellite dish provided by sponsors, weighed in at 4,087.5 kilos (8992.5 pounds). Jawadat Ibrahim, owner of the Abu Ghosh Restaurant says "Today, we have cooked the world's biggest dish of hummus with 4,000 kilos. In fact, we had planned 4,000 but in reality we cooked 4,100 kilos so a little bit more."
Never-ending culinary battle
Jack Brockbank, Guinness adjudicator says "The Lebanese have already heard about this event that's going on and they're already planning a counterattack so I think this will be an ongoing battle."
