Ukraine and Poland to jointly host Euro 2012
The official logo for Euro 2012, to be jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine, was unveiled on Monday. The logo and slogan were presented by Polish Football Association president Grzegorz Lato, his Ukraine counterpart Grigoriy Surkis and UEFA President Michel Platini at a ceremony in Kyiv's Mykhailivska Square. The logo is a stylized flower featuring the Polish and Ukrainian flags and a football, and the slogan is "Creating History Together." Euro 2012 is the first major football tournament to be awarded to Eastern Europe. Guests at the ceremony included Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Ukraine finally gets green signal from UEFA
Ukraine has been hit hard by the global economic downturn and there was some doubt that it would be able to host its full share of games. But, after months' of uncertainty, the Ukrainian cities of Kharkov, Lvov and Donetsk finally received UEFA approval on Friday to host Euro 2012 matches. Kiev was confirmed as the venue for the final. The Polish cities that will host games are Warsaw, Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw.
