Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The city is known as the Sun City for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred as the Blue City due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.
Jaisalmer with the the Hill Fort of Jaisal is the Golden City
Jaisalmer nicknamed "The Golden City", is a town that stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Jaisalmer means "the Hill Fort of Jaisal" and is named after its founder Rao Jaisal. The Dusherra festival is one of the main events all across Rajasthan.
The Rat Temple at Deshnok is dedicated to female diety Karni Mata
Karni Mata was a female Hindu sage and is worshipped as the incarnation of the goddess Durga by her followers. The most famous of all of her temples is the temple of Deshnoke, which was created following her mysterious disappearance from her home. The temple is famous for its rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple.
The world's largest camel fair at Pushkar
The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is one of the world's largest camel fairs, held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. Competitions such as the "matka phod", "moustache", and "bridal competition" are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. In recent years the fair has also included an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists. The Imperial Gazetteer of India, mentions an attendance of 100,000 pilgrims in early 1900s.
