Nestled in the foothills of the Mont Blanc mountain, Combloux was the first town in France to open an ecological swimming pool, complete with water-cleaning plants and flowers.
Combloux, first to open an ecological swimming pool
Reeds and water lilies, a common sight for a pond, but this is in fact a public swimming pool. This small town at the foot of the Mont Blanc Mountain was the first place in France to open an ecological swimming pool. No chlorine or other nasty chemicals here, just mother nature at work. Plants placed around the main pool for swimmers filter out impurities.
Combloux opened Eco-pools as an experiment
This pool was built seven years ago. Others have since sprung up around the country but ecological pools are still rare in France. The reason? Authorities still aren't sure how to regulate them. Combloux was allowed to open its pool only as an experiment.
The pool reminds swimmer to preserve the nature
Jean Bertolussi, "We will need to find regulations that can apply to natural swimming pools. We have seven years of experience that can prove that it's viable and that there are no major operational problems. We have restrictions that are much more draconian than ordinary pools. We've taken on those restrictions but now we should be able to get approval to open up for good." The pool can now welcome 700 people every day. The stunning surrounding landscape is a gentle reminder to swimmers that nature is worth preserving.
